These past 9 weeks have been a whirlwind of highs and lows. Mostly it’s the process of our little family getting used to one another and settling back to the way we were when there were three, okay 4 (sorry Stella), of us.

Recently Lucia discovered the comfort of her thumb. And thanks to this wonderful part of her little body she has slept through the night four nights in a row. My boobs are pleased about her discovery too.

Sleep deprivation really isn’t a fun thing. I was offered a new job, more in line with what I want to do with my degree, and was able to begin working part time from home a few weeks ago. I begin full time next week. I must say I am thrilled. About the job of course, but more so getting out of the house. Dressing up. Being a part of the hustle and bustle. Not that there isn’t plenty around the house to keep me busy, I just need adult interaction. Me time. It was to the point that I considered dressing up and leaving the house promptly at 8 am to drive around with the morning traffic just to get the effect of “going somewhere.” I have utmost respect for those who work in the home AND care for children. It’s nearly impossible at times, and I am in awe of those capable of succeeding.

Week 2 of being home Stella brought fleas in the house. I totally forgot to give her her monthly dose of medicine the month the baby came. So she was treated and put outside on temporary probation. This Sunday Brett brought her in, and we gave her a bath. Her first (and hopefully last) bath ever. It was dreadful. But now she is back in her little routine of nestling up on the couch. Content. And she smells like “sweet daisies.”

It has been quite busy around here. I’m excited about all of the changes. And the fact that baby Lucia, who is very different from her sister, is beginning to work through her bouts of colic and sleep through the night. We’re learning how to interpret her crying, carry on conversations with her, soothe her (she loves the outdoors and “shh-shh-shoosing” noises and when I’m desperate I’ll run the vacuum in a nearby room), and how to coordinate our schedules with hers.

We’re getting back to the way we were, and just in time for the fall festivities, which makes me so very happy.
